Alaska Rug Company
This may be the best backstory for an American company that we have seen yet: the act of quitting smoking resulted in the creation of Alaska Rug Company.
The company is based in Kodiak, AK and owned and run by Robert and Anita Shane.
The Shane’s live on-site year round, they started Alaska Rug Company in the winter 2010 when they both decided to quit smoking. In lieu of strangling one another while quitting they came up with a way to keep their hands busy and started playing with rope, finding designs and knots and began making rugs which led to much more.
What began with just rugs and place mats has expanded in to quite the list of products:
- Rugs
- Coasters
- Towel Rings & T.P. Holders
- Rope Rainbow Kids
- Bracelets
- Bowls & Baskets
- Trivets & Placemats
- Kits & Stickers
- Letters & Signs
- Curtain Tie Backs
- Crosses
The Alaska Rug Company products are made from 100% authentic alaska fishing line aand rope.
Alaska Rug Company is committed to re-purposing rope all over Alaska and up-cycling it into beautiful handwoven durable rugs, mats and other housewares rather than let it clog our landfills or end up all over the beaches.
If you happen to be visiting Alaska and want to pick up an Alaska Rug Company product, you can stop by their store, or check one of the resellers around the state. You can find them here.
We love products made in America. We also love a great story. Quitting smoking results in American Products? Fantastic!
