Like so many other American companies, Zpacks was created to solve a distinct problem encounted by a single person. In this case, founder Joe Valesko was setting out on a 2004 thru-hide of the Appalachian Trail but could not find any gear to meet his needs.
This led him to sit down at his sewing machine and create his very own gear.
Zpacks was officially founded in 2005.
Today, Zpacks gear is all sewn in their own facility in West Melbourne, FL USA.

Zpacks also goes the extra mile towards sustainability. Renewable, bio-based feedstock is used in production. Products are shipped as ‘Packageless Products,’ meaning no additional packing materials and no labels and cards that the user would simply throw out immediately.
And, of course, the products are Made in The USA:
All Zpacks shelters, backpacks, sleeping bags, quilts, clothing, and Dyneema® based accessories are manufactured in the USA. As the majority of our gear is made with domestically produced material, we are able to reduce the added carbon footprint of shipping our materials and products internationally.
Furthermore, Zpacks is on a mission to give back together with the community. For each donation made, Zpacks will double it. 100% of all donations (plus the Zpacks match) will go to either Big City Mountaineers, Wounded Warrior Project, Beyond Boundaries or Next 100 Coalition.
